ICOM is the international organization of museums and museum professionals which is committed to the conservation, continuation and communication to society of the world’s natural and cultural heritage, present and future, tangible and intangible. The Musée Nationale des Douanes is a member of ICOM.
The AGCCPF aims to establish lasting links between the scientific staff in charge of the cultural heritage, to contribute to the conservation and transmission of the collections, to further the study of the latter, to represent the profession and the member’s interaction with French and international authorities and organizations.
The aim of the International Association of Customs/Taxation Museums is to preserve and maintain the rich heritage of customs in a world that is changing very rapidly. Founded in 1993 in Denmark, the IACM today has 20 member countries and each museum operates under its own national administration. Membership is not confined to the European Union.
The Toulouse Film Institute collaborates with all the national and international organizations in charge of film preservation. It holds since September 2007 the film collection of the Musée National des Douanes.
The CHEFF allows a better knowledge of the history of economical and financial administration. Its activities are : organizing conferences and seminars ; ensuring the memory of men, women and financial professions lives on ; initiate and facilitate research ; edit and spread works on economic history.
The object of the French Lines Society is to highlight the heritage of the French shipping lines. In 2007, the Musée national des douanes exhibited a selection of photographs from the French Lines’ collections. Some of these documents describing the naval traffic of men and goods are true works of art.

The Musée national des douanes has established strong links with the city council because of its location but also because of its desire to anchor itself in the city’s life. Summer festivals such as « Bordeaux fête le vin » (Bordeaux celebrates wine) and « Bordeaux fête le fleuve » (Bordeaux celebrates the river) are examples of the museum’s close collaboration with the city council. This also applies to the student event « Bordeaux accueille ses étudiants ». In 2008, a new partnership was initiated concerning the biennial architecture festival « Agora ».
The WCO is the only intergovernmental organization exclusively focused on customs matters. With its worldwide membership, the WCO is now recognized as the voice of the global customs community.
Under the management of the ministry of the economy and finance, with the help of the minister in charge of state budget and reform, the head office of customs’ administration takes care of economical and fiscal missions and fights against all illegal traffics and organized crime.
The Foundation for the Customs’ Orphans was established in 1914 by customs officers to help the children of their colleagues killed during the German invasion. Since then the foundation has striven to bring assistance to unfortunate children. Financed and run by customs officers, the foundation has extended its interventions to disabled children or those with a sick parent.
