Education service

Learning at the museum In order to develop its action with the public, the museum created an education service in 2000 : the choice of the name shows the Musée national des douanes’s intention to pursue a well thought out public policy, adapted to all kinds of audiences. The concept cultural mediation/cultural interpretation/ education service combines the traditional guided tours and activities suited for each type of visitor. Run by a professional , this department is committed to its participation in actions of social networking and research on cultural mediation, which are initiated by different cultural and educational structures that deal with a public, on a local or national scale.

The first mission of the education service is the reception of school groups : thematic visits combined with workshops are on offer, and can also be created by request. Moreover, the education service works on the elaboration of several types of media, adapted to classes of all age and all school programs.

Since 2002, this service develops workshops for groups of children outside of school (recreation center, social center, neighborhood center etc.). The children therefore have an opportunity to discover the history and the customs’ activities.

The education service runs all the visits for the adults, whether general or thematic, and equally works on developing the mediation opportunities in a broader perspective in order to instigate new encounters between collections and visitors. Indeed, the numerous « rendez-vous » that punctuate the year and increase visitors’ chances of entering the museum also fall within the education service’s competence.

All the activities mentioned above are exclusively in French.
